Restoring Resilient Forests

Healthy forests are dynamic systems shaped by natural processes, diverse plant communities, and long-term stewardship. The Sam Shine Foundation’s Forest Program supports efforts that restore native forest structure, protect biodiversity, and strengthen the ecological health of forested landscapes.

Our work focuses on understanding how forests function, identifying threats to their long-term resilience, and supporting restoration strategies that allow forests to thrive in a changing world.

Our Work

Native Forest Restoration

We support projects that restore forests to more natural conditions, improving species diversity, strengthening habitat quality, and encouraging regeneration of native trees and understory plants.

Rare Plant Conservation

Plants form the foundation of forest ecosystems, yet many rare and threatened species receive little conservation attention. The Forest Program supports research and partnerships that identify rare plant populations, study their habitat needs, and protect the landscapes they depend on.

Research & Monitoring

Sound conservation depends on good science. We support field research and monitoring efforts that improve understanding of forest health, plant diversity, and ecosystem recovery - helping guide effective management decisions.

Long-Term Stewardship

Protecting forests is not a one-time action. Our program emphasizes stewardship strategies that sustain forest health over time, balancing conservation goals with thoughtful land management.

Why It Matters

Forests protect water quality, store carbon, support wildlife, and provide countless ecological benefits. By investing in forest restoration and research today, we help ensure these ecosystems remain healthy and productive for generations to come.
